Abarth Celebrates 75th Anniversary With 600e Scorpionissima

Key Takeaways

  • Abarth reveals more of 600e Scorpionissima design.
  • Interior and rear end revealed for the first time.
  • Bold design trades cute looks for aggression

Italian performance brand Abarth is celebrating its 75th anniversary and, in celebration, has released three new images of the 600e Scorpionissima, an electric crossover billed as the marque’s most powerful car yet.

Based on the Abarth 600e, the Scorpionissima is a special edition launch model limited to just 1,949 units, a nod to the year Abarth was established. Thanks to these new “unedited” photos, we see the rear fascia and interior for the first time. Starting with the cabin, the 600e Scorpionissima benefits from leather and Alcantara-covered bucket seats with lime green detailing. The flat-bottomed, two-spoke steering wheel is trimmed in the same materials, while the dashboard sports Abarth decals in front of the passenger.

Aside from the racier touches, the cabin also gains ambient lighting, cleverly concealed storage space, and an Abarth-specific 10-inch infotainment setup with onboard navigation and a unique Abarth sound generator.

Cutesy Crossover Becomes Aggressive-Looking Performance EV

It may be based on the cute Fiat 600e, but the Scorpionissima has been made to look menacing and aggressive thanks to a body kit, 20-inch wheels, and other model-specific touches.

At the rear, a prominent diffuser panel and black detailing resembling air vents dominate the bumper. A black spoiler sits atop the tailgate, while Abarth badging sits above the black-painted trim. We’ve already been treated to a glimpse of the front styling, but the latest images provide a better look.

It plays angry guitar noises when you drive fast.

The front end is particularly angry-looking, with a deep spoiler, carbon fiber detailing, and side skirts. 20-inch blade-style wheels round out the changes between this and its lesser Fiat cousin. Hypnotic Purple is the launch color, but Abarth will surely offer more hues.

Not Just Fast In A Straight Line

There’s no word yet on battery size or range, but we assume it will use the Fiat’s 54 kWh battery. More exciting is how it should perform around corners. The eCMP platform was reworked to create the Perfo-eCMP architecture. With greater agility and sharper handling than the regular Fiat 600e, the Abarth gains performance-fettled suspension, a new braking system with larger discs, and special tires. The tires are particularly interesting, as Abarth has taken inspiration from the world of Formula E. This rubber provides plenty of grip without sacrificing electric range.

Whether the Abarth brand makes it to America remains to be seen, but it will likely depend (at least partly) on the success of the Fiat 500e.
