Ashish Nehra Turns Down Offer To Become India Head Coach: Reports

As per reports in Indian Express, former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra has reportedly turned down the offer to become India’s next head coach in T20Is ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. Rahul Dravid’s tenure was supposed to end after the ICC World Cup 2023.

Meanwhile, the former Indian skipper has denied speaking about the renewal of his contract as he is on a break after leading the Indian team to the final of the tournament. The T20 World Cup will be played in the USA and West Indies from June next year and the BCCI and the management are keen to give Dravid an extension.

BCCI Approached Ashish Nehra For India Head Coach Post In T20Is

The BCCI had approached the Gujarat Titans coach with an offer to become the next India head coach in T20Is, however, he has rejected the offer. Nehra took up the coaching stint with Titans in IPL 2022 and led them to the title in his very first season. In the next season, they made the finals once again losing out to Chennai Super Kings in the summit clash.

Indian Express has further reported that Chairman of Selectors and the skipper Rohit Sharma are keen on Dravid continuing in his position as the India head coach. Meanwhile, Nehra’s name came into recognition after his successful stint with Gujarat Titans as head coach in the IPL.

The Indian team is currently playing a T20I series against Australia with former India cricketer VVS Laxman performing the role of head coach with Dravid on a break. After being 2-0 up in the series, India lost the third T20I in Guwahati.

India piled up 222 with the bat. However, Australia on the back of Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten ton won the third T20I to stay alive in the series. Prasidh Krishna gave away 21 runs in the final over and became the Indian bowler with the most expensive figures in a T20 international.
