Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition Launches GM’s Bidirectional Charging Tech

Key Takeaways

  • GM Energy introduces vehicle-to-home (V2H) charging technology.
  • Chevrolet Silverado EV First Edition RST is the first GM EV capable of supporting the technology.
  • V2H tech requires PowerShift Charger & V2H Enablement Kit for $7,299.

General Motors has announced the Chevrolet Silverado EV RST First Edition will be the first EV in its stable capable of supporting the brand’s vehicle-to-home (V2H) bidirectional charging technology. Available through GM Energy, GM EV owners will now be able to charge their compatible vehicles in a new and convenient way and also send power back to the home, which is handy during an unexpected blackout.

While the electric truck comes standard with the necessary hardware, owners need to fork out for the required equipment to utilize V2H technology. GM Energy’s V2H bundle includes the PowerShift Charger and V2H Enablement Kit for $7,299, which sounds pricey, but this setup will prove invaluable in emergencies. That price does not include the installation fee, and it’s worth noting that the cost of installation (via Qmerit) will vary depending on the home setup.

These items will be offered for sale at a later date. GM Energy says its products can be accessed through GM’s mobile apps, providing convenience to your fingertips. This way, customers can manage their stored energy and transfer it between their vehicle and home.
