Mrs Hinch fan is ‘over the moon’ after 40p Asda item removes toilet limescale

A Mrs Hinch fan has shared her go-to hack for removing limescale from toilets after previously struggling to remove the stubborn substance.

Social media user Clare Bear posted on the Facebook group, ‘Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips’: “Just wanted to share a hack I found, it may already be known so apologies if so.

“Anyway, I had so much limescale in my toilet and nothing was shifting it. I left two Calgon tablets to dissolve in the water and it’s all gone. I’m over the moon.”

Calgon 4-in-1 Washing Machine Water Softener Tablets can be bought online or from most local supermarkets.

Calgon tablets cost £6 for a box of 15 from Asda and Sainsbury’s which works out at just 40p per tablet.

Calgon tablets are meant to be used inside your washing machine to ensure the appliance lasts longer.

The product claims to “boost efficiency for your washing machine by preventing limescale build-up and helping your washing machine to live longer”, according to the Calgon website.

Clare’s post was inundated with responses from fellow Mrs Hinch fans who thanked her for sharing the tip.

Barbara Paige said: “Thanks for sharing that, always people asking for a remedy for this.”

Clare added: “Once it’s fizzed for a while, flush it and use a limescale toilet bleach and leave that a little bit and it’s gone.

“I’ve used everything for six months prior to this, it was then gone in a day.”

Other suggestions from cleaning enthusiasts included using baby oil and Bar Keepers Friend.

Lisa Harrington said: “Baby oil works too. Leave around the rim for 15 to 30 minutes or longer if need be, then toilet brush around the rim then flush.”

Denise Williams said: “Bar Keepers Friend is a pretty good toilet cleaner too.”

She later added: “Just pop several caps full of the powder in the loo and leave for an hour or so. Then a good brush.”
