Best Convertible Muscle Cars | 2025 Ratings

Unfortunately, Ford is the last automaker to dominate the convertible muscle car segment entirely. These cars are somewhat of an enigma because their fixed-roof relatives are marketed in the USA as the ultimate classic car for fans of the hardcore. The coupe versions of muscle cars typically handle better with more rigidity, and they’re usually a bit quicker since they lack the extra components of a convertible roof. However, there is one drop-top muscle car left: the Ford Mustang. Here is a breakdown of the three Mustang trims available as convertible muscle cars.

Vehicles are assigned a BuzzScore in relation to their direct segment competitors, and as such, vehicles in this list, while similarly scored, do not necessarily compete directly against one another. Find out more about how the BuzzScore ratings work here.

Ford Mustang EcoBoost Convertible

$40,120

Talking about the “best convertible muscle cars” seems silly, since there is technically only one left, but we’ll go over the three trims you can choose from. The first up is the standard EcoBoost Convertible. As the least-expensive model here, it’s not the fastest, most thrilling, nor is it particularly upscale inside. You still get that great exterior styling, but it lacks some cosmetic details that elevate the Premium models. The standard EcoBoost Convertible starts at $40,120 before the destination charge and other fees, which is just over $8k more expensive than the base-model coupe with the same powertrain and interior.

While the EcoBoost is technically the weakest Mustang, it’s not slow. The 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Your only transmission option is a 10-speed automatic, which can send this rear-wheel-drive car from 0 to 60 mph in about five seconds, according to independent testing. The interior is what differentiates this trim from the next, though. It’s equipped with a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster, a six-speaker sound system, and manually-adjustable seats.

Ford Mustang EcoBoost Premium Convertible

$43,045

If having a convertible roof is your main motivation, there are other options for drop-top sports cars. They don’t have the same “muscle car” feel as the Mustang, but it’s good to know the Mustang isn’t actually the last open-top experience. With that being said, though, the EcoBoost Premium Convertible is a step ahead of the base model we just discussed. It’s basically the same under the skin, but this version starts at $43,045 since it comes with a nicer interior and some more upscale cosmetics.

The EcoBoost Premium still has the same powertrain as the base model – a 2.3L turbo inline-4 that makes the same 315 hp and 350 lb-ft. There still aren’t any other options as far as transmissions go, either, so we hope you’re happy with Ford’s 10-speed auto. However, for an extra three grand, you gain access to a nicer-looking magnesium-framed curved glass instrument display. You still have manual cloth seats, a six-speaker sound system, and some minor details, but you can choose to spend more on nicer optional features with the Premium trim. Some options consist of active-valve performance exhaust with remote rev, Brembo brakes, and a power driver’s seat.

Ford Mustang GT Premium

$56,580

The last Mustang trim with a convertible top is the GT Premium, which is fortunately more exciting than the other two soft-tops. As one of the last muscle cars still for sale, it’s getting rarer by the day to find the same thrills given by a V8 and rear-wheel drive. Ranking among some of the best convertibles of 2025, the Mustang GT Premium is a dying breed that we will be sad to lose one day. This version of the Mustang starts at $56,580, but it might be worth the price increase over the EcoBoosts just to hear the sweet rumble of its engine.

Powering the GT Premium is Ford’s beloved 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 that makes 480 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. This version is more fun as well, due to the standard six-speed manual transmission and five distinct drive modes. If a calmer cruiser is more your style, you can opt for the 10-speed auto, though. The GT Premium also has a standard limited-slip differential, heated and cooled front seats, and a nine-speaker sound system.

“From the second you press the start button, the Mustang GT rumbles to life with its glorious V8 engine. There are several exhaust modes ranging from loud to deafening, though a quiet mode does mute the sound a bit if you are trying not to wake the neighborhood. Ford made some major improvements to the 10-speed automatic transmission, making it shift smoother under normal conditions while keeping it aggressive during spirited driving.”

Best Convertible Muscle Cars

While the catalog isn’t overly long, there are a few key elements common to these types of cars:

  • Engines and power outputs – Ford offers options with a smaller, turbocharged engine that delivers around 315 horsepower. The Mustang GT, on the other hand, produces 460 horses and gets from 0-60 mph in around four seconds.
  • Pricing – The starting MSRPs of these autos can be vastly different depending on what type you go for. Models with less power have a price of around $40,000 at base level, while GT model in 2025 starts at over $56k.
  • Makes – Ford is the lone manufacturer of convertible muscle cars today. Shopping for older models will yield more options, like the Chevy Camaro, but the only brand-new option is the Ford Mustang.

What Tto Consider Before Buying A Muscle Convertible

A 30K convertible comparison you’ve likely never considered…what kind of fun do you want to have for you money?

FAQs

What would be the ideal car for a younger driver in this segment?

We’d recommend opting for vehicles with lower power outputs. Trusting a teenager with over 400 horsepower isn’t the wisest choice, for obvious reasons.

How do I save some money when shopping for one of these autos?

There are bound to be a few used models from 2023 or older for sale in your area; all you have to do is look around. It’s also worth it to research whether there have been any recalls for the vehicle in question specific to its model year.
