Dodge Charger Daytona Police Concept Is Perfect For Catching Criminals

Key Takeaways

  • Dodge teases new Charger Daytona concept police vehicle.
  • The electric patrol car features the classic black and white livery.
  • It remains to be seen whether Dodge will offer gas-powered Charger police vehicles too.

Dodge has long supplied the US police with pursuit vehicles and cruisers. From the ’60s Coronet to the last V8 Charger, Dodge is synonymous with law enforcement. But what about the electrified era? It seems the automaker is working on a Charger Daytona pursuit car.

Teased on the Dodge Law Instagram page, a sole picture showcases a concept police vehicle based on the new Daytona electric muscle car. How do we know it’s the electric variant? Well, the new Charger EV is the first vehicle to use the revived Fratzog logo, which can be seen on the front fascia.

Classic Police Livery Meets Modern Electromobility

The Charger Daytona uses the classic black and white livery, with a white-painted hood that boasts the “To protect and to serve” slogan and a law enforcement logo. Dodge Law hasn’t revealed any details, but the caption reads, “Surely you didn’t think we’d forget about a legend. Stay tuned for more details.”

While there’s nothing unusual about a Dodge police car, the fact that it’s electric may hinder its capabilities. That’s not to say law enforcement hasn’t embraced EVs – the NYPD has introduced a fleet of Mustang Mach-E patrol cars, for example. However, electric vehicles aren’t always ideal, with some departments complaining that their Tesla Model Y patrol cars aren’t up to scratch.

With 670 Horses, Catching Crooks Shouldn’t Be A Problem

Performance certainly wouldn’t be a problem. The Charger Daytona EV has as much as 670 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, making it a highly capable high-speed machine. Range may be an issue though, as the Scat Pack and R/T have an estimated range of 260 and 317 miles, respectively. What’s more, the sleek two-door likes of the Charger Daytona EV won’t be practical when it comes time to cart some baddies off to jail.

In due course, Dodge will introduce a four-door variant, which will provide a space for suspects. Of course, that doesn’t solve the problem of range anxiety. Let’s not forget that a Hurricane inline-six-powered version will arrive in H2 2025. Depending on the specification, the ICE-powered Charger will produce between 420 and 550 hp, which is more than enough for a pursuit vehicle.

Still A Concept Car – For Now, At Least

While the gas-powered four-door would be the most practical combination, we wouldn’t be surprised if Dodge offers the electric version as a sheriff’s patrol vehicle or a specialist police car. As the vehicle is a concept, anything can change between now and the time it debuts, but there’s no doubt that Ford Explorer Interceptor police vehicles are more spacious and easier to refuel.
