Lucid Gravity Is Ready To Steal The Tesla Model X’s Lunch Money

Lucid Motors has announced the start of production of its new Tesla Model X fighter, the Lucid Gravity. What’s remarkable is the pace with which the fledgling EV maker has made progress. In November 2022, Lucid announced the Gravity SUV, claiming astonishing performance and fantastic range with seven seats. A year later, the Lucid Gravity made its American debut, with greater range and more luxury features than the Tesla alternative, and Lucid started showing off its towing abilities with a stunt involving a supersonic jet. We’re now barely a year on from that, and Lucid still isn’t slowing down.

Lucid Is Gearing Up To Take On The Big Players

In hindsight, it’s no surprise that Lucid has achieved this target. In January of this year, Lucid expanded its Arizona production facility to prepare for the arrival of new models like the Gravity and more, but considering how Faraday Future took six years to deliver a car, and how poorly Fisker handled just one model line, not to mention how few of the EV startups we highlighted in 2022 are even still around, this is impressive. Of course, Lucid has plenty of investment from entities determined to see it succeed.

Lucid Gravity SUV Is Way More Powerful Than Expected

Less than a year after revealing it, Lucid opens orders for its new SUV. Production begins before the end of 2024.

The top Gravity trim, Grand Touring, which will naturally arrive first, will have over 800 horsepower from dual motors and a 0-60 mph time of below 3.5 seconds. Later on, there’s also be a variant with an EPA-estimated range as high as 440 miles, which would far eclipse the 335 miles of a Tesla Model X. Mention of the Gravity’s chief rival brings us to the next point, which is price. The Gravity is targeting a base MSRP of $79,900, which is 90 bucks short of what an entry-level Model X costs. The Grand Touring is priced at $94,900. That means it’s still too expensive for many, but as we said, Lucid is just getting started.

Cheaper Electric Vehicles On The Way From Lucid

The Lucid Air has received rave reviews, and we expect the Gravity to be just as good, but once production of this SUV is in swing, Lucid will introduce its Model Y killer, a midsize crossover that is targeting a production start date of mid-2026. Thanks to a trademark uncovered by CarBuzz, we expect this to be called the Lucid Earth. As we’ve already noted, Lucid seems to have the steam to keep its momentum going, and if it can get this new entry into production on time, it will have plenty of momentum – momentum it will use to launch a trio of affordable EVs. Game on.
