Stellantis’ European Brands Aren’t Coming To America

Stellantis has 14 brands under its umbrella as a result of the merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and PSA Group in 2021, with popular American models like the Ram 1500 and Jeep Wrangler under its tutelage. It’s currently the world’s fifth-largest automaker by sales, but not all brands under Stellantis are sold in North America, and it looks like that won’t change anytime soon.

  • Ram

The ‘Ram’ moniker used to represent certain models within the Dodge stable, but in 2010, Ram Trucks was founded as a spin-off brand on its own. Now a division of Stellantis, Ram produces a range of light to heavy-duty pickup trucks and commercial vehicles, including the Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks, and the Promaster van models. In 2024/2025 news, the Ram 1500 pickup won the CarBuzz Award for Best Truck of the Year.

  • Jeep

Jeep is an off-road SUV brand with roots dating back to World War II when off-roaders were known as jeeps (from GP or General Purpose vehicles). Willys-Overland Motors took the concept mainstream by launching versions for the public to buy, and the brand has built a reputation of being te purest off-road-focused brand ever since. Iconic models like the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee have been staples in the lineup, and the brand currently lays claim to having the best-selling plug-in hybrid in America, the Wrangler 4xe.

  • Dodge

Like many automakers, Dodge evolved from being a machine shop that supplied parts and assemblies in the early 1900s to a fully-fledged automaker. The Dodge brothers started building cars in 1914 under the ‘Dodge Brothers’ brand – the company was sold to Chrysler in 1928, originally producing trucks, full-sized passenger cars and compact cars. These days, the brand is known for performance cars like the iconic Charger and Challenger, sold under the Stellantis banner.

That’s according to Stellantis Canada CEO Jeff Hines, who spoke on record during the Automotive News Canada Congress, saying that other Stellantis brands in Europe won’t come to North America. When asked about whether we can expect the automaker to bring in its other brands across the pond as part of its plans after Carlos Tavares’ departure, Hines responded with a definitive statement.

“No, I don’t think so. I don’t think we’ll have Opel or Peugeot or any of the European-centric brands here. If there are products we think that work in Europe, those are some of the things we’re looking at today that could fit here.”

– Jeff Hines, Stellantis Canada CEO

Jeep Avenger For North America

The “products” that Hines was referring to in his statement was the Jeep Avenger, the brand’s first-ever EV, predating the Wagoneer S, Jeep’s first EV in North America. The Canadian head honcho said that the Avenger would be a “fantastic product” that fits the growing market for small SUVs. It also addresses Stellantis’ problem with affordability – an issue that American dealers have been facing since last year.

What Every Brand Under The Stellantis Umbrella Is Supposed To Do

Since the merger of FiatChrysler with France’s Peugeot-led PSA group, a new conglomerate of brands have been established. We’ll dissect them for you.

Citroën, Opel, and Peugeot are some of the Stellantis brands that aren’t sold in North America – and yes, that includes the Citroën Ami, which reached the US in 2021 as a rental under the company’s Free2Move business. Peugeot, which was sold in the US until the ’90s, was thought to be returning before, only to be shot down a few years later due to market uncertainty.

Stellantis Now In A Better Position In America

Another issue that Hines addressed in the interview was the criticism that Tavares received during his reign. Dealers thought the former CEO didn’t understand the North American market, which led to the company’s disappointing performance in terms of sales. According to Hines, the team that is in charge now has a better grasp on North America, referring to Stellantis COO Antonio Filosa and chairman John Elkann.

Stellantis Is Launching A Slew Of New Gas Cars This Year, And Other Promises

Stellantis is working to keep its dealers happy, with some very big promises.

“For example, Antonio Filosa is our COO. He lives in Metro Detroit. Our chairman, John Elkann, is here all the time. So, the 100-percent focus of the Stellantis group globally is North America. When you live here day to day, your ability to understand the consumer goes up tenfold. And so, I have all the faith in Antonio that we’ll bring the right products at the right time and at the right price that work for our dealers and for our customers,” Hines said.
