The Only BMW XM Destined For The Track Isn’t What You Think

The 2023 MotoGP season has come to an end, and with that comes the reveal of the 2024 season safety car, which will be the XM SUV. The automaker unveiled the official safety car at the finale in Valencia. Aside from several subtle changes, it’s the same XM you can buy at a dealership.

Based on the range-topping Label Red edition, the safety car receives Recaro seats with six-point harnesses, a fire extinguisher, and a front splitter. Adding a splitter is a good idea, as safety cars need to fly around the track at high speeds, and, well, the XM is not fond of sweeping bends. Other additions include a roof bar and flashing lights. When the SUV is pressed into duty in March 2024, it will sport the traditional BMW M livery.
