Volkswagen is reportedly planning to join the lucrative pickup truck market in the US with an all-electric entry of its own. According to WardsAuto, the new model will be developed with the platform, drivetrain, chassis, and electronic architecture of VW’s new EV sub-brand, Scout Motors.

The publication further claims that the new electric VW pickup truck is one of two new EVs at an early stage of design development under design chief Andreas Mindt. The new Scout EVs will arrive with historical design cues, while the VW pickup will be typical of the Wolfsburg-based brand.

The exact dimensions are unknown, but the cabin and bed are said to be more spacious than those of the Rivian R1T.
