Wang Yi calls for continuous development of China-Thailand partnership

China is willing to work with Thailand to build a China-Thailand community with a shared future and advance practical cooperation in various fields to promote the continuous development of the strategic partnership between the two countries, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of Thailand, who is in Beijing, China, to attend the eighth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Congratulating Parnpree on assuming his new post, Wang said China will, as always, support Thailand in taking a modernization path suited to its national conditions and in playing a more important role on the international stage.

Wang called on both sides to uphold political mutual trust, maintain exchanges at all levels, enhance all-round communication and speed up the China-Laos-Thailand Connectivity Development Corridor Outlook.

He also urged efforts to deepen cooperation in areas such as connectivity, trade and tourism, safeguard the stable and smooth flow of the industrial and supply chains, and jointly combat transnational crimes including online gambling, telecommunication fraud and human trafficking to promote the continuous development of the China-Thailand strategic partnership.

For his part, Parnpree said Thailand firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to enhance strategic communication and deepen practical cooperation with China.

It is in the interests of all parties to carry out connectivity cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, he said, adding that Thailand is willing to actively promote the early opening of the Thailand-China and Thailand-Laos-China railways.

Parnpree said he welcomes Chinese high-tech enterprises to invest in Thailand to strengthen scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, expressing his hope that personnel exchanges will be more convenient.

Thailand will strengthen security measures and resolutely crack down on transnational crimes such as telecommunication fraud, he added.

Both sides agreed to maintain close cooperation to push for the upgrading of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation. They also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
